Mystery Artist 3....and Her Loyal Protector

This one would be real easy if I had just gotten it to look like who it's supposed to look like. But I'm just beginning this portrait thing. And this is just a practice. With a bit of luck, lots of prayer and umpteen jillion art lessons, I may make it yet.

Glee is a word I don't use often. Matter of fact, I can't remember the last time I did use it. But as I was studying this young lady's little thumbnail profile, I thought to myself..."Now this is a gleeful person." Truth is, she reeks glee. And the first poet ever to use the phrase "rosy cheeks" surely had her in mind. I got to the point in her portrait that I had to settle for less than satisfied. I may go back and work with it at some point. For now it looks somewhat like her, but I didn't catch her exuberance. If I had, then I would be exuberant.

This delightful young artist is a cutey from Texas
(my alma stater). That means she deserves a loyal protector, and as such, I have appointed the world famous, one and only.....BATDOG!!!!!!

  2. This is a great painting with lots and lots of detail work. I hate to think what I would turn out as I am not good at portraits.

  3. Gosh now, who on earth could that be??? James you have given me such a laugh, you are doing such great work with your portraits you should be proud. That little lady in my arms is Winnifred Wigglepants. She was the cause of much happiness, so I'll attribute the glow to her, my little angel pug who went to heaven last year. Thank you for the batpug protector! I can use that this weekend when I'm on the road.
    hugs from texas...

  5. Another great job on your portrait! James, you are too humble. I spotted Nancy from your follower icons. ;) How big is the painting, 5 x 7? I also love the bat dog!

  6. Dang Jim...you're like the portrait painter extraordinaire! She is absolutely going to love this. BatDog looks like he's wondering what he heck he did to deserve this.

  7. Edward, Maria, Dominique..thanks for the nice comments...Nancy is bubbly, and that's hard to put on canvas. Nancy...you take care on the road...Fredericksburg is great...enjoyed many an Oktoberfest there. Akiko, that's a 5 x 7...and humble?...LOL...more like realistic. I'm so very thankful for whatever talents I have, but I am in admiration and inspiration for the wealth of art mastery out there...yours included. And, Sheila, you're a sweetie, extraordinaire. BatDog looks so pitiful because he had his chops set on a Spiderman outfit.

  8. James, delightful portraits of Ed and Nancy both. What a wonderful name Nancy's dog had! I think you did succeed in catching Nancy's exhuberance, and Ed's too. I like the joy and the color in your paintings. Have you done a self-portrait?
